Where Are You Going? To See My Friend!

I teach first grade in Bethel Park School District. This book merges Eric Carle's collage technique and Kazuo Iwamura's watercolor artwork along with rhythmic texts to create a beautiful book about friendship for young children. Children can read the book like a play by reading the animals' parts. The book can be read in English and Japanese. There are pronunciation guides for the Japanese version of the story, so it can be easily read. There is a song, with music, in the middle of the book where the friends meet. This book is a wonderful way to introduce Japanese culture into a primary classroom. It is also a creative resource for collaborating with primary art and music teachers. The book is a treat for teachers, librarians, and their students!
